Thomas J Clarke
THOMAS J CLARKE
1858-1916
The first signatory of the 1916 Proclamation was Thomas Clarke. A member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood since 1878, he formed a military committee in 1915 to plan a rebellion.
Clarke fought in the GPO throughout Easter week. He was executed by firing squad on May 3rd at the age of 59.
